Our Mission Statement
Established in 1990, Greyhound Pets of Atlantic Canada (GPAC) is a registered, volunteer based charity committed to the welfare of greyhounds, podencos and galgos in our care, serving Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. We place these dogs in loving, responsible, committed homes following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding appropriate matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. GPAC prepares each dog for home life with all responsible medical care and treatment. We provide adopters with extensive training, on-going support and behavioral consultation to ensure these dogs have a smooth transition to home life. We provide education to the general public and raise awareness about the availability and suitability of greyhounds, podencos and galgos through our website and community events.
We are proud to say that we have a 97% success rate of placing dogs into new homes with small children and other pets the very first time.
Our greyhounds are available for adoption all year long. Before adoption, our greyhounds are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, have received dental scaling if needed, are microchipped, have blood drawn for a full tick panel test and have been dewormed. The adoption fee also includes a resource book, collar, muzzle and six weeks of complimentary pet insurance with Pet Secure.
Our galgo and podenco adoptions work a little differently as they are coming from Spain. We typically bring back pre-adopted dogs twice a year.
Are you in Newfoundland and curious about one of our dogs? We have a Newfoundland branch that you can connect with to arrange an adoption. Click GPAC-NL for more information.
