Adopting retired Greyhounds – placement into loving forever homes in Atlantic Canada
Greyhound forever homes - the need is still great
Every year in the US, thousands of greyhounds are retired from the track because they are too slow.
A greyhound's average life span is 12 - 14 years. The average age of these retired racers is only 2 to 4 years old. These dogs are generally moved into the adoption programs of different groups all across America and into Canada - including Atlantic Canada.
Many tracks operate adoption groups right from their facilities. They use some of the revenue generated by the racing industry to assist in the placement of these graceful, loving dogs. The co-operation of breeders and tracks has given the greyhound adoption movement a huge boost, but the need for adoption homes is still great.
